When is a building permit required?
Per the Code of Ordinances, Chapeter 155 Building and land Use Regulations:
"Section 155.03 Building Permit Required
No building shall hereafter be erected, reconstructed or altered within the City unless a building permit signed by the Clerk upon approval of the Council has been issued. Fees for building permits shall be in accordance with a schedule established by resolution of the Council."
Do I need a permit to erect a fence?
Per the Code of Ordinances, Chapter 155 Building and Land Use Regulations:
"Section 155.12 Fences
Fences in the restricted residence distrct which are permanent in nature, or which are constructed to and intended to last more than six (6) months, shall require a regular building permit. " (Full contents of section available at City Hall.)
Is there a penalty for not obtaining a building/fence permit?
As per Resolution #7-2-2008, effective July 8, 2008, the fee for failure to obtain permits prior to start of any such projects outlined in Chapter 155, sections 155.03 and 155.12 shall be $25.00 per violation. This fee is in addition to the regular cost of the permit.
